Level 1 is the foundation of the Freestate Firearms Training Defensive Handgun Program. This course is designed for shooters who want to develop safe gun handling habits and solid marksmanship skills in a structured, low-stress environment. Whether you are new to defensive shooting or looking to reinforce proper fundamentals, Level 1 establishes the skills and mindset required for responsible handgun use.
This course emphasizes safety, accuracy, and control—not speed. Students are given the time and coaching needed to build repeatable, dependable performance without pressure.
By the end of Level 1, students will be able to:
Safety and Orientation
Students begin with a comprehensive safety briefing
that establishes expectations and procedures for the
entire course.
Safety is non-negotiable. Unsafe behavior results in
immediate stoppage of training.
Fundamental Instruction
This block focuses on the building blocks of accurate
and controlled shooting.
Static Live Fire Practice
Students apply the fundamentals through deliberate,
single-target live-fire exercises.
Evaluation and Debrief
The course concludes with an evaluation and debrief
focused on performance and understanding,
not pressure.
To successfully complete Level 1 and be eligible for Level 2, students must demonstrate:
